The stunning Ms. Smith was kind enough to tolerate some questions.

Brachman.com: Why do a lot of people think models are dumb?

Kim Smith: Probably because, many, many years ago, someone found one or two who were.

B: Energy equals…

KS: Mass times the speed of light.

B: If all else is equal, whom do you marry, the chemist or the physicist?

KS: The one who’s sweet, loves me, cares about me, and understands me.

B: More and more models seem to be breaking into movies, including Kirsten Dunst and Famke Janssen.

KS: Yes, they’re re both great. I admire them.

B: Famke (pronounced "Fam"-"Key") means "little girl" in Frisian. What is Frisian?

KS: Famke is Dutch, Frisian is the dialect spoken in the West Frisian Islands, off the Netherlands in the North Sea.

B: Is that your final answer?

KS: Yes.

B: That’s correct. Who’s a better candidate for your affection, someone your own age, or an older man?

KS: Probably someone my own age or a couple of years older.

B: What’s the earliest age a young woman should consider being in a serious relationship?

KS: It depends on so many things. It could be as early as 16 or 17, or maybe the early 20’s. It’s when the right person shows up.

B: A woman walks down the street wearing a sexy outfit. A guy comes along and notices. He doesn’t say anything, stare or bother her, he just looks, and, from the look he gets in return, she’s offended. Is the guy wrong to look, or is the woman wrong for being annoyed?

KS: It depends. It’s okay to look, but no one should gawk. Women can wear what they want, just like guys can. You can’t know anything about a person based on how they’re dressed. You have to respect people, and that means respect their privacy as well.

B: Who’s smarter, men or women?

KS: That’s easy. Women.

B: You’re alone, sunning yourself at a beach. A guy sees you and walks over. What should he say, what shouldn’t he say?

KS: I don’t go to the beach alone.

B: What the dumbest thing a guy can say to a model?

KS: Are you a model?

B: You’re in school. A good friend, a girl, comes over and says Kim, I haven’t wanted to bother you with this, but I’m wondering… do you think I can model? How do you answer if you know she’s not right?

KS: The truth is, you never know. Some agencies go for a certain look. If you see enough models, sometimes you’ll say, wow, that person’s really beautiful, other times you’re thinking, hmmm, what an unusual choice. The point is, the person you might not find attractive got the job. I’d tell her to put together some snap shots, send them out and see what happens.

B: There’s a classroom discussion of feminism. Someone expresses the opinion that models make less attractive women feel inferior. You think to yourself, I’m staying out of this one, but the teacher calls on you. What do you say?

KS: Models shouldn’t make anyone feel inferior, that’s not what it’s about. Models are what they are… people who model clothing, that’s all. I’m interested in golf. It would be like me saying, I think it’s wrong to have the PGA Tournament, because it showcases brilliant talent, and since I’m nowhere near that level it makes me feel bad. Doesn’t make sense. There are always going to be situations where people are better at something than we are, that’s the way life is.

B: You’re not old enough to vote, but if you were, whom would you lean toward, the man from Texas, or the man from Tennessee?

KS: The man from Texas.

B: Did your father ever sit you down and say something like, "Here’s how it works. No musicians. No actors."

KS: No, he’s really supportive of my decisions. He knows I’m careful.

B: When beautiful women are asked what they look for in a man, they invariably rattle off a list, and say they’re not interested in looks. Yet, I’ve never seen a supermodel with an ugly guy. Care to explain?

KS: No way are looks the whole story. I care about what people are like on the inside.

B: Will you marry me?

KS: No.
